Empower 300: Building Math Confidence Together
Did you know there is a link between math proficiency and future outcomes for students?
Did you know that the COVID-19 pandemic has exacerbated these issues, with significant learning losses reported across various subjects, including math? Many students have fallen behind by several grade levels (we are in crisis: there are currently 8th grade students who are doing math at the 3rd grade level), making initiatives like Empower 300 even more crucial.
Did you know that the "school-to-prison pipeline" is a term used to describe how students who fall behind academically, especially in subjects like math and reading, are more likely to disengage from school? This disengagement can lead to higher dropout rates and an increased likelihood of incarceration. Studies have shown that low academic achievement, particularly poor math skills, can be a risk factor for future involvement in the criminal justice system.
Did you know that early math skills are a strong predictor of later academic achievement, not only in math but also in other subjects? Students who struggle with math in elementary school are more likely to continue struggling in higher grades.
Why Empower 300: Building Math Confidence Together is Important:
Together we will provide targeted support and sponsorship. The initiative aims to empower 300 students by providing them with essential math skills and confidence through Mathnasium in Fayetteville, Ga. By targeting support to these students, we can address the learning gaps caused by the pandemic and prevent long-term negative outcomes.
At Mathnasium each student receives a customized learning plan. Mathnasium’s personalized approach ensures that each student receives a tailored learning plan designed to meet their specific needs. This individualized attention is critical for students who are significantly behind.
Mathnasium helps students build confidence in their math abilities, which can lead to improved academic performance and a more positive attitude towards learning. Confidence in math can also reduce anxiety and encourage students to engage more fully in their education.
Empower 300 fosters community engagement and investment in the education of local students. By supporting this initiative, community members and sponsors can help create a positive impact on the future success of these students.
